I teach children and adults in a method that is essentially traditional. My teachers have come from the German and Russian schools, and I try to pass on to my students the technical and expressive elements that I have learned from them. I teach music reading, rhythmic accuracy, technical skill, and posture. Once students have a basic proficiency, I teach classical repertoire. I emphasize playing with musical feeling, and using dynamics and articulation as expressive tools.
While I care deeply about the quality of my students' playing, and am always pushing them toward greater diligence in their practicing, I feel that I am also very encouraging with my students. I try to always highlight their accomplishments. and to make them proud and excited about piano.
I am currently accepting new students at my studio in Broomfield, Colorado. I am looking for students with a love of learning, a curiosity about music, and a desire to work for their accomplishments. Music has been the central focus of my life, and I am looking for new students with whom to share my experience and learning.
Student ages: While it is never to late to begin your study of piano, I recommend beginning lessons no younger than age 5. In many cases, students may be well advised to wait until they are 6 or 7 years old to begin lessons.
Lesson time: For students who are young children, I offer 30-minute weekly lessons. For more experienced children and adults, I offer 45- and 60-minute weekly lessons.
Practicing: Success at the piano is very much a result of the regularity, focus, and duration of practice sessions. Students should plan to spend approximately the amount of time of their weekly lesson at the piano each day.
Rates: Please contact me about my current rates.
Recitals: Recitals are a wonderful opportunity for students of all ages. I schedule regular recitals throughout the year.
I am a member of the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA) and the Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA).
